“David McCulloch was the only groundwork contractor my father trusted to work at Cowden. In 2012 he was appointed to dredge the pond to locate stone lanterns which had been pushed into the water during a night of vandalism in 1963. My father knew the machinery would be guided with surgical precision and as a result many fragments were recovered and later repositioned in the garden. On one occasion he was tasked with placing the largest stone in the dry garden; the professor directed the positioning in increments of one centimetre over several hours. It required immense patience and skill. The McCulloch team have been instrumental in the speed and success of the restoration and I can not recommend them more highly”.
